Nekede Poly Management Reads Riot Act To Lecturers, Students Over Academic Frauds

The Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Imo State has stated its resolve to flush out lecturers and students who engaged in acts capable of tarnishing the promotion and sustenance of academic excellence in the institution.


The Rector of the Polytechnic Dr Michael Chidiebere Arimanwa said this while briefing newsmen on his stewardship as the Chief Executive Officer of the institution in the last three years.Arimanwa, who is also an Anglican Priest, said that a committee had already been set up to checkmate such academic frauds as plagiarism for necessary disciplinary action.


He said: “I came up with a vision and mission statement with goals and targets encapsulated into 5 areas to ensure high academic standard among staff and students”.The Rector said that the institution expressed joy over the drop in ranking in Internet Communication Technology (ICT) in Nigeria from 17 to 6 position.He said that the present drop in ranking as a result of the commitment of the management towards transforming the school.


He described the recent dropping in the ranking as a good development, saying that it confirmed his dogged efforts towards the development of technology in the institution since the assumption of office.He assured the strong determination of the institution to continue to move in the same direction until it got to No 1 as the best in ICT compliance in the country.


The Polytechnic Rector identified a paucity of funds as the major challenges bedevilling the rapid growth and development of the institution.He said: “some projects that ordinarily would take one year to complete would take 2 to 3 years before completion”.


Arimanwa recalled the nasty experience of the COVID-19 Pandemic that ravaged the institution last year, regretting that the Institution lost a whole academic year which resulted in the introduction of visual learning for students.


The Rector disclosed that 33 programmes of the Institution had received accreditation under the supervision of the Nigerian Board of Education NBE.He said that the successful accreditation of the 33 programmes had added a positive boost to the capacity and strength of the institution to produce competent and qualified persons in development in the country.On the areas of achievements, the Rector said that despite the challenges, the Institution under his able leadership had recorded huge success in the areas of both human and infrastructural developmentsAccording to him, the Institution had undertaken seven capital projects out of a total of 38 projects while 26 were being executed through TETFund under the federal government.
