LASU Matriculates 6,648, Offers Exceptional Students 50% Pay Cut On School Fees

Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, on Monday, matriculated a total of 6,648 new students across first degree programmes for the 2020/2021 academic year.

The university has also announced to grant any student of the university from this academic set whose cumulative gradient point average (CGPA) is up to 4.5 from the 5.0 obtainable mark in each academic year, a 50 per cent pay cut on their school fees irrespective of courses of study so as to encourage healthy academic excellence among them.

The vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji- Bello, gave this hint at the matriculation ceremony, which was the first to be conducted as the ninth substantive vice-chancellor of LASU.


While congratulating all the students on their admission as well as their parents, she said the university had put in place all the human and material resources and facilities that would aid them to do well in their studies and other activities required of them as students.


She also told them that the university would not only give their welfare and safety in and around campus a top priority but would also bring in some micro-firms where those interested among them could work on a part-time basis to earn some incomes even as students.

“We also want you to know that we have the guidance and counselling unit, the career development centre and the directorate of skills development and entrepreneurship where you can obtain professional advice on a career path and acquire new skills and knowledge to make success in life,” she added.


Prof Olatunji-Bello, however, cautioned the students to be focused, committed and well-behaved, saying the university has a zero-tolerance for all social vices, including examination malpractice, cultism, indecent dressing and hooliganism.


She said any student, who is found culpable of any of these vices would be dealt with according to the laws of the university.She said her vision as the new vice-chancellor is to further take LASU from its current position as the second-best university in Nigeria according to the world universities ranking to be the best in West Africa by 2025.
