JAMB Admission Age Policy For 2025: Key Details Revealed
30th December, 2024 Jamb
JAMB relaxes the minimum admission age for 2025, allowing candidates who turn 16 by August 31, 2025, to qualify for admission, subject to institutional requirements."

JAMB Announces Relaxation of Minimum Admission Age for 2025 Session

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has made a significant change to its admission policy for the 2024/2025 academic session by relaxing the previously set minimum admission age of 18. In a new update, the board has now allowed institutions to admit candidates who will turn 16 years old by August 31, 2025, provided they meet the institution's admission requirements.

This new policy was disclosed by JAMB Spokesperson Dr. Fabian Benjamin in a statement broadcast in Abuja. According to the statement, the relaxation of the age restriction aims to offer more opportunities for younger candidates who meet academic standards but were previously excluded solely based on age.

Previously, the 2024 Policy Meeting had set the minimum age for admission at 16 years for the 2024 session, with plans to raise it to 18 years for the 2025 session. However, some institutions were reported to have refused admission to students under 18, even though the policy allowed for candidates who would turn 16 by August 31, 2025.

Dr. Benjamin clarified that while the new policy allows institutions to admit candidates aged 16, it does not compromise the institution's standards or policies. Institutions have the freedom to assess candidates based on their own criteria, as long as those standards qualify the candidate for admission.

JAMB's decision also aims to prevent the disproportionate admission of candidates late in the admission process. The board has requested that institutions update their Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) to include a list of candidates who will turn 16 between January 1 and August 31, 2025, and who meet the academic requirements for admission.

This move by JAMB is intended to ensure fairness and equal opportunities for prospective students while maintaining the integrity of the admission process.
