The iPhone is a line of touchscreen-based smartphones designed and marketed by Apple Inc. All generations of the iPhone use Apple's iOS mobile operating system software. The first-generation Apple's iPhone was released on June 29, 2007, and multiple new hardware iterations with new iOS releases have been released since.

It is perhaps easy to think that the first iPhone was released in 2007. But it turns out that this wasn't the first iPhone.

The Internet History Podcast (by BGR) has recently reminded us that way back in 1998 - when Apple was merely a struggling computer company working on the original iMac, a company called InfoGear (that was later acquired by Cisco) was making phones of the same name.

The brand was the subject of a trademark dispute when Apple announced its phone.

The lawsuit was ultimately settled out of court and both companies were allowed to keep using the name.
However, you've probably never heard of the Cisco iPhone.
