The National Strike Coordinating Committee of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has commenced a meeting in line with the ongoing strike in Nigerian public universities, The PUNCH can confirm.

A highly reliable source confirmed the development in an interview with our correspondent on Wednesday night.

ASUU had on Monday, February 14, 2022, embarked on a nationwide strike.

The union had blamed the government for failing to meet some of its lingering demands which include the release of the earned allowances for lecturers; release of revitalization funds for universities; deployment of the University Transparency Accountability System for the payment of salaries and allowances of lecturers among others.

The union had engaged in a series of meetings with the representatives of the government.

The latest meeting was a dialogue between the Emeritus Professor Nimi Briggs committee and the union.

“The meeting of the strike organizing committee has started. Other processes will follow. However, it is important to know that if the government fails to meet our demands, it will be hard for the strike to be called off”.

ASUU’s National President, Emmanuel Osodeke, could not immediately be reached for comments at the time of filing this report.
