AKSU : Lawyers Sue Emmanuel For Reappointing AKSU VC Modified: 16th January, 2025 • Latest A coalition of lawyers has challenged the reappointment of Prof. Eno Ibanga as the acting Vice-Chancellor of the Akwa Ibom State University after serving out his mandatory five-year single term. The lawyers, under the auspices of Concerned Lawyers Forum, in their originating summons in Suit No: HU\\2\\2020 and enlisted for hearing at the Uyo High Court 10, argued that the governor flouted the relevant section of the law establishing the university in 2009. The principal claimant, Mr Nsikak Akai, on Saturday, said, “We are challenging the powers of Governor Udom Emmanuel in the reappointment of Prof. Eno Ibanga, as the Acting VC of AKSU without following the laid down procedure of the law establishing the university”. Akai recalled that “Prof. Ibanga was first appointed as Acting VC of AKSU in March 2015 and the appointment confirmed one month later in April.” “Under the law, an individual can only be appointed for a single term of five years after which he is not eligible again until another five years when he last held such office.” (Punch) Kindly share on Whatsapp, X, Facebook.
