2021 UTME : JAMB PUTS FINISHING TOUCHES TO PREPARATIONS FOR THE 2021 UTME Modified: 4th December, 2024 • Jamb To ensure a hitch-free 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME) and Direct Entry (DE), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has met with the chairmen and members of the various groups as well as other key players to tightening all loose ends and ensure a successful exercise. The meetings, which were all held virtually on Wednesday, June 2021, commenced with that of the Resident Monitors; the Biometric Verification Reporting Officers; Committee Chairmen and their Secretaries as well as the Supervisors. Briefing the participants at the meetings, the Registrar of the Board, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, informed Resident Monitors whose membership comprised mostly non-staff members that they are one of the most important groups in the administration of the examination given their central role of monitoring everything and everybody to give undistorted security and intelligence reports to the Board. The Registrar equally urged the Biometric Verification Reporting Officers who are solely members of staff of the Board to take full responsibility for the verification of the candidates. They were urged to be vigilant and to note that, as staff, they would be held accountable for any unauthorized access to the hall by candidates. The BVR officers were directed to ensure that all officers complied with the rules. They were urged to get the details of all assigned officials at the centre while providing a daily attendance list that all the officials of each centre would sign. As for the Committee Chairmen, Prof. Oloyede commended these eminent Nigerians with proven track records of probity and diligence for accepting to be part of the exercise. He thanked them for their participation in previous exercises and implored them to continue to give their best for education adding that the history of the Board can never be written without a portion dedicated to them. The supervisors, who are the leaders of their teams at the centres, were asked to lead with wisdom to avoid any friction as the overall success of the examination should be their major preoccupation. All the groups were asked to read the Training Manual to familiarise themselves with the operational codes of the examination. The former Minister of Education who is the Chairman of the High- Power Opinion Leaders, Mrs Chinwe Obaje, commended the Registrar for the Board’s inclusiveness saying her committee would do everything possible to justify the confidence reposed in them. Prof. Peter Okebukola, former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) and Chairman of the Equal Opportunity Group, disclosed that the Board's assignment is a critical responsibility that requires all hands to be on deck. He urged his colleagues to bring their wealth of experience to bear on the examination. Dr Mikail Umar, a Resident Monitor, thanked the Registrar for the opportunity given to them to serve. He advised his colleagues to be vigilant, dedicated and committed to delivering a fair and credible examination. At the end of the briefing, participants sought clarifications on sundry issues while the Registrar enjoined them to get adequate information from relevant literature on the conduct of the examination.
