Six ways by which a citizen's right can be safeguarded include:
(i) Education: Government should create enough avenues for the citizens to be educated.
(ii) Rule of Law: The laws and provisions of the constitution should .be respected by everybody. Also, the government should guarantee the rights of the people.
(iii) Existence of democratic rule: This should be in place to allow for the people's participation on issues of the state.
(iv) Freedom of the press: The press should be free to disseminate information (constructively) to the people.
(v) Poverty: The government should tackle the problem of poverty in the society through provision of jobs, industrialization, provision of essential amenities, etc., to give people a new lease of life.
(vi) Fundamental Human Rights: These rights should be entrenched in the constitution.
(vii) Independent Judiciary: The independence of the judiciary will enhance impartiality and equal justice in a system. Dispensation of justice should be done without fear or favour.
(viii) Enlightenment Campaign: This will create in the citizens, the consciousness and the ability to fight for their rights, especially when such rights are denied them.
(ix) Human Rights Commission: There is the need to establish some commissions, so that justice and fair play could be enthroned in the system, e.g. parliamentary commission, Ombudsman (public complaints) Commission.
(x) Existence and Maintenance of Law: This should be in place in order to protect the rights of the people and the people should on the other hand, obey the laws and perform their civic duties in the state as well.
