4. Measures taken to make Public Corporations more efficient are:
(i) Red-tapism or beaurocracy: This is a problem that can affect efficiency and should be properly looked into.
(ii) Nepotism and favouritism: This should be discouraged in appointments to top positions like Managing Director, General Manager, members of Boards of Directors, etc in the corporations. Inefficiency may be enthroned instead of efficiency. This is because wrong and unqualified hands have been appointed.
(iii) Political interference: Political interference in public corporations may produce inefficiency. This should be. discouraged as well.
(iv) Monopoly: The monopoly enjoyed by most public corporations should be broken. This will make way for competition and efficiency.
(v) Working condition: There is the need for an improvement in the working conditions of the workers.
(vi) Employment of qualified staff: Highly qualified and technical hands should be employed to enhance efficiency.
(vii) Tribalism and sectionalism: This cankerworm can destroy the image and efficiency of a public corporation and so should be undermined or discouraged.
(viii) Political instability: Constant and frequent change of government may affect the efficiency of public corporations.
(ix) Mismanagement of fund: Public corporations should curb these excesses.
