Different types of pressure groups:
(i) Professional Pressure Groups: It involves Teachers, Lawyers, Doctors, Journalists, etc. These groups come together to form pressure groups e.g. Nigerian Union of Teachers, Nigerian Bar Association, etc. The major aim is to protect the interest and promote the welfare of the members.
(ii) Economic Pressure Groups: Members of this group include; Chambers of Commerce, Trade Unions, Industry, Agriculture, etc. They work towards promoting the economic wellbeing of their members.
(iii) Occupational Pressure Groups: Those that belong to the same occupation can come together to form this group, aimed at protecting their interests. For e.g. such groups like; Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Nigerian Medical Association (NMA)
(iv) Educational Pressure Groups: These are groups like; Academic Staff Union of Teachers (ASUUU) National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), etc. The aims of these groups are working to see the improvement of their members' welfare and for the educational sector.
(v) Social pressure groups: The groups are formed mainly to promote the social welfare of their members. For e.g. Old Girls Association, Old Boys, Boys Scout, Girls Guide, Youth Clubs, etc.
(vi) Religious Pressure Groups: This group includes, Christians, Muslims, the Traditionalists, Animists, etc. They come together to pursue and promote their religious interests, as well as, influence government decisions on religious matters.
