(b) Importance of Hydro-Electric Power Projects to the Economy of Africa: (i) Provision of power i.e electricity, e.g Akosombo dam
(ii) Hydro-electric project like Aswan dam also provides water for irrigation of farmland.
(iii) Dams are also used to control floods
(iv) Fishing is done nearly in all dams in Africa for tourism and recreation
(v) It generates revenue as it serves as centre for tourism and recreation
(vi) It is also used as good water communication.
(c) Problems of H.E.P development in Tropical Africa are: (i) Water shortages may disrupt the output of hydro electric units
(ii) Mechanical failures could also be a problem
(iii) Initial cost of construction is usually very high
(iv) There is high cost of resettlement of displaced people
(v) Lack of effective demand for the power generated.
