Give an account of the factors that have aided the location of any three of the following (a) Textile mills in Kaduna (b) Oil refinery in Warri (c) Pulp and paper mill in Oku Iboku (d) Cement factory in Ewekoro
Explanation
(a) Factors which favour the location of textile mills in Kaduna are: (i) Availability of raw material. The raw material which is cotton is massively grown in Zaira and Kaduna (ii) Presence of large market - Clothing materials produced from the mills are easily disposed off because of big market (iii) Availability of labour. There is abundance of labour for the processing of cotton to its products. (iv)Availability of power - Power, e.g electricity is readily available for normal operation of the plant. (5) Factor which favour the location of oil refinery in Warn are: (i) Availability of raw material which is crude oil (ii) Nearness to market as products produced from the refinery are used in the south (iii) reduction in transportation cost. Cost of transporting crude oil is reduced as crude oil is processed within the area where the oil is found (iv) Nearness to seaports from where the products can easily be exported. (c) Factors which favour the location of cement factory in Ewekoro are: (i) Nearness to raw materials which is limestone (ii) Reduction in the cost of transporting the raw materials (iii) Availability of labour (iv) Availability of power.
