Shifting cultivation occurs when a piece of land is left fallow for a while, mostly within a farming season for cultivation to be done on another piece of land. That has no damaging effect on the forest.
When trees are cut down for agricultural purposes, timber production and during excessive bush burning and grazing, the forest is often lost or reduced as there will be reduction in the numbers of trees available.
