a) Highlight the story of the cleansing of the Temple in the Gospel of Matthew: Matt. 21:12-17: (i) Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the Temple (ii) He overturned the tables of the mon changers and the seats of those selling pigeons. (iii) He then said - 'My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you make it a den of robbers'. (iv) The blind and the lame came to Jesus in the Temple and He healed them. When the chief Priests and scribes saw the wonderful things he did (and the children crying out in the temple' Hosanna to David's son) they were angry. (vi) They said to Jesus, "Do you hear what they are saying? (vii) Jesus said, have you never read? Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou has perfect praise. (viii)And leaving them he went out of the city to Bethany and lodged there.
(b) Two ways the Church is defiled: (i) Through oath taking/ vow-taking. (ii) Through occult practices. (iii) Through breaking of commandments. (iv) Through unholy / ungodly association. (v) Through religious politics / Bribery and corruption. (vi) Through abominable acts (rituals and sacrifices).
