He trans. lated the English Bible into the Yoruba language. He also worked on the primer for the Igbo version of the Bible with Simon Jonas. He also worked on a book on Yoruba language. being a linguist by discipline. He worked with Henry Townsend on the Niger expedition and in the propagation of Christianity in Nigeria. He was ordained bishop in 1864
