The inscription "to an unknown God" was noticed by Paul during his missionary journey to Athens. On getting to Athens. Paul noticed that the Athenians were idolaters. Their poets also demonstrated this in the inscription in the Areopagus (council) which read "To an unknown God". This inscription gives the clue that the Athenians have a sketchy idea of who God is but have not acknowl- \(9 .\) edged Him. Paul used this oppontunity to preach to them about the Almighty God. He stood in the Areopagus and preached to them. Acts 17:22-26
